does any one know y ive been fishing for carp & other fish in cali?

fornia kings river and i cant catch any thing ive used worms crickets and bread and nothing they get close to the bait but the fish never bite they look at the bait and will chase it if i reel it in slowly any sugestons on bait and techniques???????????

try drifting the baits (especially nightcrawlers) with the current .if you drift it along with the current it will appear more natural as if it got caught up in the current and its drift ing downstream.similar to the flyfishermen.the fish, were you fish recognize baits that are attached to rods as they only sit in the current.not flow w/it. so lighten up your weights a little and try drifting the baits down to the fish this should work.

Spend more money on a fishing rod or on the reel?

If I’m fishing for bass and carp which is more important? I’m looking to get something decent from Cabela’s in the $100-130 range for the total cost of the two.Any ideas?

reel. and shimano reels and okuma are really good

Is this wychwood carp rod and reel deal suitable for pike too?

I just want to know if the Carp rod and reel combo here http://www.paidonresults.net/c/19231/1/207/0">Lathams Fishing would also be suitable for pike fishing on rivers like the Stour and the Avon using deadbaits?

Before you spend that money on the Combo you’ve looked at , have a look at the Double Combo at Used Tackle , they advertise in the Angling Times every week and do a great deal , 2 rods , 2 reels ( with free spool feature ) all in a holdall £ 50 .. I brought a set last year for my son , I use it more than him , they cast deadbaits really well and handle fish well to.
If you’re not used to Pike please go with someone who has experience , an unhooking mat and forceps are also a must.

tackle for carp fishing ?

i think i can use my float rod but do i need a different reel or float or something ??
the reel i have now is the drennen7seriesfloat

In my opinion, as long as your reel holds at least 150 yards of 12lb mono than it will do for carp fishing.

Interesting carp fishing show I watched today?

I NEVER see Carp fishing shows on TV, and today I was watching the Outdoors channel and this woman was in the Missouri River, KILLIN’ Carp on 3" scented Gulp! Crawdads. It was ridiculous. She found a honey hole of fish feeding and was catching Carp after Carp on LURES. She also used her fly-fishing rod for a bit but most of the fishing was done with a spinning rod & reel along with these 3" scented Gulp! Crawdads. Here’s the lures – http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_10202263____SearchResults

She also used some sort of extra tiny crayfish imitation fly when she fly-fished for them. Best fishing show I’ve watched in a long time! You think these gulp craws will work in a deep, gin-clear creek for Carp? I’ve tried corn and dough-bait, but the carp are just so "picky" that they won’t hit anything.
Average Joe, their natural food source DOES include small crayfish along with worms and such.
Fisher_King, I really do like the Trout worm idea. I will be at Wally-World this coming week to buy a new rod & reel and some other lures, hooks, sinkers, etc. I might try a pack along with some of the crayfish (if I can find any of the two, that is).
eoh418, I tried chumming the day I used corn. They just don’t like it.

You know I’m not much of a Carp fisherman, but, I imagine Berkley Gulp Trout worms in a Natural color might be the booyah for ‘ole Mr. Carp. (Carp do eat worms don’t they?)

More than likely the show was filmed during the "crawfish molt" when most fish feed heavily on them. I don’t know……….

I caught a Grass Carp on a Rapala Shad Rap once, (and it wasn’t foul-hooked either; I hooked him right in the mouth). It was in a retention pond behind a hotel in Florida. It was HUGE! Probably 25 LB’s…..My theory on WHY he struck a lure?

The pond was devoid of ANY weeds or vegetation or LIFE, (other than the occasional shoreline minnow). I think he was MIGHTY hungry! And had been hungry a LONG time…….

Anywho, try the Gulp Trout Worms. They are much more "stealthy" than the Crawfish.

BEST CARP REELS? £50 RESTRICTION?

I’m just starting out in carp fishing and only young so i haven’t got money to just spend, i need a reliable, smooth running reel that is perfect for Carp Fishing.

Thanks.

carp are strong and feel like a big log once hooked so get good strong test and rod i don’t think the reel is as important than the line and rod you have once a carp swallows the bait you pretty much have them hooked but they can and will break your line if you try to pull them in before they are tired out it can take a long time my son had just a a small carp (8 pounds) it took him half an hour to bring it in so be prepared for long fights i have caught them on a zebco 202 rod and reel combo but if you want really big carp get a bigger combolike the 404 have fun that’s the real reason to fish

can i use carp reel for course fishing?

hi, i have a shimano 6000 st ra baitrunner, which i use on a carp rod for carp fishing of course, but i also liek course and canal fishing, in theory could i slap the shimano on a smaller rod length and play it that way?

no. u wouldnt catch any fish.

Is a Zebco 202 a good reel for carp fishing?

If not, what is your opinion on a good reel for carp?

hey man, zebco makes some great products for all different types of applications but man i wouldn’t suggest using a 202. a 202 is a good reel for pan fish small bass and small cats but i wouldn’t too much suggest going after a big carp with one. if you are just looking for a reel for a small price and want a decent reel i would suggest the zebco 33 classic or the zebco rhino. should be able to get one or the other for under 30 bucks. man i hope this helps you out a bit and if you choose to use the 202 and you get ahold of a good sized carp loosen your drag and work the fish and dont try to force him on in. use your rod and your drag to get him on in. good luck good fishin be safe and remember to share the experience
