5th Annual Carp Fishing Holiday 2007 – Manicure Lake – Day 1
It’s the first day of my 5th annual fishing holiday. Normally I would be at the ‘pack’ ‘bivvied up’ but this year it’s to be spent doing day sessions at a ‘dawn till dusk’ day ticket water that has a few fat ones in it.
Last year I slayed them but this year I am two months early and for the first time it has been fished all year round.
Has it all changed? The Members Log book makes grim reading.

5th Annual Carp Fishing Holiday 2007 – Manicure Lake – Day 4
I am lying back by a magic carp lake, a cold beer chilling my right hand. The sun’s beams are a penetrating warmth all over me, while a welcoming south-westerly blows in a cooling breeze. I drift off into a summer’s daydream of epic battles and big golden carp. Cypry Heaven. Can life get any better than this?

5th Annual Carp Fishing Holiday 07 Manicure Lake Day 10 Pt1
The last day of my annual fishing holiday (part 1) and it is the hottest so far, add to that crowds of day ticket anglers making loads of noise then you know the fishing is going to be hard. A thick head from over exposure to alcohol the night before ensures a very late start. Mr Martin has been fishing since 7 am and has already lost a good fish. Bacon sarnies and the hair that bit the dog is the order of the day.

5th Annual Carp Fishing Holiday 2007 – Manicure Lake – Day 3
Feeling confident in the bait and location I have decided to constantly ring the changes in the search for a hooked fish. No point sitting there and hoping that it will all come right, because it won’t. Moving swims and searching for a fish to mug is the order of the day.

After almost two weeks total immersion in the hunt for the carp in manicure lake I am finally nearing the end of my journey. Time then to meet an old acquaintance and known resident of manicure. The moment’s spent here now will be cherished and remembered because in only two days time I will have to leave this cypry heaven and re-enter the real world.

5th Annual Carp Fishing Holiday 07 Manicure Lake Day 10 Pt2
So finally, here we are at the end of my 5th Annual Carp Fishing Holiday.
A pukka holiday, no doubt about that! I have enjoyed every moment.
It’s now the early afternoon as Mr Martin bids me farewell and leaves me to carry on trying for one last carp. The noise of the day has started to die down and carp are now moving around the lake. After spending a few hours in the bay I decide to try and squeeze one last carp from the swim where it all began, 10 long days ago.

Anyone know any good ways of remembering pond/river fish thanks?
I’m going away on holiday tomorrow, I’ve got my fishing rod, bait, everything else. I made up a rhyme to remember carp (mister carp has a whisker.) The only thing I could think that rhymes with whisker was mister!!! Any help of thinking of new ways to remember? (I have one for roach too: Roach is red head to toe…) Thanks, I would’ve put this on the title, but then people would only be doing it for the thumbs up:
GUARANTEED THUMBS UP!!!!! (to proper answers)
Thanks -spud
Keep a journal handy and write anything down that you think would help you.
Dates, times, structure, baits used, line weights used, should all go in that journal.
My friend has just put some very large koi carp in her pond about 2 weeks ago ,?
there is a waterfall and fountain but no air filtration system what so ever shes gone on holiday and ive got up this morning and 3 of the fish are dead, she also has gold fish, its obvious from looking that the pond is not large enough but i want to know is there anything i can do to try and keep the remainder alive, she told me to turn the fountain and waterfall off on a night but i think that it would be best to leave it on,any suggestions would be gratefully received as i know nothing about fish
i know alot about this carp. its a grass carp and they need lots of dissolved oxygen. i would leave the fountain on all the time as well as the waterfall.if this woman does not put in some type of equipment to make 02 all these carp will expire soon.these must be in the 5 pound or more weight.these large fish need alot of 02 to survive. the goldfish dont require as much as carp eventhough they are in the same family order.tell her that she needs to keep the waterfall and the fountain on all the time, year round and especially during the hot summer months when 02 levels drop dramatically. i studied biology in college and work in the field of the environment and i know without a high 02 concentration in the pond, she will be wasting her money purchasing new fish. by the way these carp are japanese triploid grass carp.
whats the best bait for carp?
ive been fishing one lake for ages and cant get em to bite once alrite it was a nice common of 19lb but since then the seem to have go on holiday or something. hehehehhehe. please HELP
Benzie 12,
Answers 1 and 2 are giving you the correct bait. they should give you the rigging to use and a tip.
The Tip: (Make your own hot honey hole). Broad cast dry dog food and canned corn in the area 12 hr. before you fish . this is to draw the fish in the area and to hold them there. Then use the baits of answers 1 and 2 on a sliding sinker rig.,
Sliding sinker rig:Main line attach a sliding 1 once sinker then tie on a swivel , a piece of 10 lb. line to the swivel and a size 4 hook to that.
Thank you for your question.
