Definitely. I think you could handle mackerel and then some with that carp rod. Heck, i could bring a Zebco 33 to the salt if i wanted to. Just be sure, after every saltwater fishing trip with a freshwater rod, grease it, clean it, oil it, make sure everything is alright. Saltwater will brake down the gears in a freshwater reel. i’ve had a full trace of mackerel on what a fight loved it.
