I have a 12 ft carp fishing rod with a test curve of 2.75lb, what line and weight should i use if i take it to go peir fishing in dover?
Its a G-tek cool carp 3600 rod
hey there, first look at your reel and rod, both will state on them the kind of casting weight range and how much of what line.
e.g. my grauvell rod has a casting weight between 4 & 8 oz my reel depending on the line will take 180ft of 15 mono, if you are going for braid as aqua beast said spiderwire is good, however the one that is getting recommended more now as it does less damage to your eyelets is called firewire. It is braid but coated so is superior to use, quite expensive but saves a lot of time and money on getting new eyelets replaced.
first things first take the details of you rod and reel and take it from there.
I would use a 20 lb spiderwire braided line. But be careful that you have hardened eyelets or the braided line will wear grooves into them. Like brass or aluminum eyelets would be bad.

#8 or #10 MONOFILAMENT line.
What kind of rod is it? You might wanna check the spec rating on the rod itself in the small lettering.
If it’s an actual "carp rod" you might not want to use heavy line or lots of weight with it.

They make Carp fishing rods?
In the United States these are considered trash fish.
The best way to cook them is in a pressure cooker with a piece of hickory wood. When done, throw out the fish and eat the wood. It’s the better part.

Snakehead fish (Frankenfish Monsters) are on the next "Kill em All" list of problem fish in US Waters. US Dept. of Natural Resources has already banned the import and release of these fish into US waterways. All are killed on site and in masses by federal and state officials when found. Worse than Carp, these things have teeth!

Here is a simple way to keep your tackle safe.
For every 1lb of test curve a safe casting weight is 1oz.
With a maximum of 7lb breaking strain line for every 1lb
of test curve.
The tide at Dover is probably going to be to strong for you to hold bottom with the weight you can cast with a carp rod.You will be better off using a float rig . If you use a fairly big float you can still fish at any depth you like and catch a variety of fish. Fish I have seen caught on a float set up include small ray’s , bass ,dogfish as well as mackerel scad ,pollack.
Hope that helps.
