I have had difficulty catching the carp. i have a copper level fishing rod. all I need to know is do i need the higher level fishing rod? Any hints or tips would be greatly appreciated.

I usually catch lots of carps when i’m fishing at Caremal Falls. I only use the regular unupgraded fishing rod and i usually catch from 2-4 every time i fish. Try there, it might work.

I have a 11ft carp fishing rod and am told that if I change the eyes on the rod to a bigger size , i could cast further , I’m using 15lb fire line ,can any body confirm this for me ,

Heck no, whoever teld you that changing the guides is the thing to do is crazy. The rod was made with specific standards and can with stand those parameters under it’s guide line for best performance. To make it short, you can see those guide lines near the top part of the butt section of the rod. It’s wriiten, stamped, or stickered onto just about every rod ever made! The ability to cast farther comes from practice, the ability of your reel, Your abilty to use the reel correctly, weight used and correct line used. Correct casting ( there are several styles for distance…watch Youtube) for distance will also help you get that extra yardage. There’s no need to change out the guides, you might as well have bought a rod with the guides you wanted in the first place and I bet you still would have asked this question here.

Practice, build up those casting muscles, learn some casting techniques, go by the rod’s set guidlines and I can guarantee you will see an improvement in casting within a month. ~good luck catchin’.

I have a 12 ft carp fishing rod with a test curve of 2.75lb, what line and weight should i use if i take it to go peir fishing in dover?

hey there, first look at your reel and rod, both will state on them the kind of casting weight range and how much of what line.
e.g. my grauvell rod has a casting weight between 4 & 8 oz my reel depending on the line will take 180ft of 15 mono, if you are going for braid as aqua beast said spiderwire is good, however the one that is getting recommended more now as it does less damage to your eyelets is called firewire. It is braid but coated so is superior to use, quite expensive but saves a lot of time and money on getting new eyelets replaced.

first things first take the details of you rod and reel and take it from there.

i have been fishing for 23 years and have never owned more than 3 for freshwater and ist always one each for carp,ledger,float

I have at least twenty-five combos,(I know) fresh water and that many at least for salt,My obsession for them is real.I love to fish,and all my extra $ goes to it.So after more than forty years of birthdays,christmas& fathers day, they add up.And if someone wants to join me but lacks a good pole I can loan them one with no problem.I could list them all but I would be here all night.People who know me are always giving me some old obscure thing they foung at a garage sale,and asking me if I want it.Sometimes you just have to be polite and take it.

Can someone please advise as to which type of rods to buy for my sons to start them off with their fishing hobby that they are getting into.
My sons want 2 rods set up when they go night fishing in a couple of weeks and i don’t want to look totally blonde if i go to a shop to buy one and ebay has some good deals but i don’t know where to start……..
They want one set up on ledgering and one on float, they both recently bought a 8ft spinning rod and reel set each and have apparently tried them out on both techniques and said it was ok (they caught some 5lb carp) but im not sure what is the best purpose for this type of rod and am totally over whelmed looking on websites when they refer to match rods and specialist rods etc etc, they are going to be fishing for mainly carp on lakes, so can someone pls advise me as to a good set up for each type of fishing (float and legering) so i know what they should be using the current spinners for and what to buy for the other type also any other advice / info / links will be much appreciated from all you expert fisherman out there,

so what do you call a general purpose rod ? so far i just keep seeing, specim, course,carp, etc etc

I’m assuming you don’t want to spend the earth because boys can be pretty fickle with their hobbies! I’ve suggested a couple of rods below that will do the trick beautifully. A feeder rod is more or less the same thing as a leger rod. Reels are rather less specialist than rods, so a pair of the one I have also suggested below could be used interchangeably on each rod (I don’t work for Castaway Tackle by the way)! Alternatively, you may want to buy them a reel with a bait runner facility to use with the feeder rod (the name baitrunner is patented, so you may well hear it called something else like bite & run etc but it’s all the same thing). Carp anglers like this kind of reel as it has a second clutch that allows the fish to take line off the reel without pulling the rod into the lake.

Don’t buy an all glass fibre rod, even if you can find one. They are hopelessly out of date. Carbon fibre is the material to go for. Forget spinning on carp lakes by the way. It won’t go down at all well.

I’m assuming the boys have some idea how to set up their tackle. If you plan to buy them some line, I recommend 5lb test for the float rod and 8 lb for the feeder rod.

I could (and frequently do) go on for ages about setups, but will leave it at that unless you post any secondary questions. When you go into the tackle shop don’t be afraid to ask questions. I don’t think it’s at all likely that you will get ripped off, and as for looking blonde, well most blokes like blondes (and you sound like the kind of mum most boys would love to have)!….

I have a zebco carp fishing rod which was bought from argos, it is a 12ft rod with a test curve of 2.7hlb.

I was woundering weather i could use it to fish for mackeral off of admiralty peir in dover?
In other words could i use it for peir fishing?
Also what size line should i use?

I have my line set with 30lb line as the coast area I fish is very rough ground, and likely to get snagged up even just fishing for mackerel however going round to some other grounds I change down to my 15lb mono, good enough with up to 5 mackerel on it.
As above though make sure you rinse the reel off in fresh water as the sea can rot it pretty quickly, a basic oil or spray oil is absolutely fine.

I’m going to a fishing clinic on Saturday and last time we were there there was carp jumping out of the water a lot.The fishing expert there left a pole out to sit to see if he could catch a carp.Well after a while one took the bait but broke the line.I’d like to try catching one but I have 8lb line on my rod and have never tried for carp.Should I even bother trying or will they just break my line or rod?

Carp are strong, heavy fish but you should be able to pull them in with 8 pound line if you are careful. Set the drag light enough to give out line before it breaks. Also be sure that your line isn’t already weakened (usually from damage) near the hook and/or weight. If it is, just cut off the first couple feet or so and reattach the hook (or use a wire leader). Play the fish when its on the line. Hold the rod upright so the fish has to fight the rod (by bending it) as well as the drag from the reel. I always found that carp are the best fighters (which is fun) and also quite tasty. Did you know that in europe and australia, the carp is considered a prize? Where I am from (Iowa in the USA) they are considered a rough fish and not very good. I beg to differ and I often fish for them. Good luck.

In Reel fishing 3 I can’t catch the deep bodied crucian carp. I have tried for hours and now need help. Please tell me how deep what rod,hook,bait and where. It is really bothering me because I am stuck at such an early stage in the game. Please help me.

Just get down your local tackle shop and ask them. If the shop is any good they will bend over backwards to help you. afterall all the bits of gear they will sell you will make their time worthit. Or if you can get down your local lake and ask any fisherman or owner.
