    One question: the …
One question: the knot at the end of the video ( 0:55 ), is it for monofile or multifile lines?

  • TheCarpCatcher:

    Use the lightest …
Use the lightest lead you can get away with as carp use big leads like a supersonic pendulum and use the weight and leverage against the hook to help shed it.
Supple links sell more coated braids than catch carp..

  • TheCarpCatcher:

Best not to use a …
Best not to use a knotless knot as they have poor knot strength especially in lower breaking strains.
Palomar or Grinner knots are much stronger and more reliable.

Short hairs like this will be ok for fish under ten pounds but for larger fish use a much longer hair.

Do not have the hair coming of the side like that but off the top of the bend.

Dont know where you get the idea about the knotless knot having poor strength. I have never had the knot break since using it. to my mind its got to be one of, if not the best way to attatch the hooklink.

You will find a semi fixed lead system works best with a stopper up the line because when the carp tries to shake the hook free the lead comes loose preventing the lead being used as a pendulum then as it hits the stopper when the fish swims off it pulls the hook further in

u dont put bait on …
u dont put bait on the hook when u hair rig u slide the ball (boilie(bait)) onto the hair and stop it with a boilie stop, ino it seems werd at first that carp can hook themselves by going for something thats not on the hook but trust me they do hook themselves

  • siim258:

    The ball is called …
The ball is called a boilie. Type it into wiki to learn more about it. The rig itself is designed for carp fish. That is also why the bait is not hooked onto the hook. Because carp often spits out the bait (he didn’t like the taste) you still have a high chance of hooking the fish.

  • davidlars99:

    What is that ball …
What is that ball made of? Doesn’t hook need some bait?

  • TheCarpCatcher:

    From lots of …
From lots of experience and the fact that it now has been found by many to be weak also.
I think danny fairbrass mentions it in one of his free DVD’s and the work round of using an extra turn.

I still use it for 20lb plus hooklinks it’s easy and neat to tie, but would not trust it for any thing less than 20lb and opt for a palomar.

I guess when you lose a fish and the hooklink comes back kinked and snapped at the point of the knot you lose confidence in it eh.

  • TheCarpCatcher:

    Fair point and i …
Fair point and i have had to use big leads just lately with lead dumping being very important and to get the balance right is not an exact science.
I don’t like knots past the lead as they can be unsafe but i do use a pieced soft rubber bead for this purpose..
