Can Someone help me with Carp Fishing?

I Have just brought All The Gear To Start Carp fishing (Rods,Rod Pods,Bivvy,Bight Alarms) but No Line Hooks Weights Etc)
But i have never fished for carp before and fancied a change in fishing.
So Can Anyone Help me with setting up the rod
like what type of line and the weight of it will i need what hooks what what weights and how to set it up. or can anyone tell me a good website witch shows me how to do it all.
many thanks in advance

Type of line – Get monofilament it’s cheap, strong and works anywhere. Something around 14 or 15 lb. test will do fine. That’s normally what i use.

Hook – I found that a size 2 baitholder hook works the best for carp. I use those cheap little $2 packs of them at wal mart. I think the brand that makes them is renegade. You should find a pack. They usually have them in stock all the time.

Sinkers/weights – I usually just use split shots because of slow moving water, the easyness of taking them on/taking them off, and because i don’t need a huge weight when the doughball on my hook is pretty heavy. I guess if fishing with a heavy duty fishing pole or with fast moving water you use sliding sinkers.

Here is a pretty good beginner carp fishing website – http://www.anglersnet.co.uk/Carp-Fishing-Articles/Beginners_Carp_Guide_1.html

to start off, go to your local fishing/tackle shop and get some berkley big game line (12-15lb will do), its cheap and real strong.

hooks- id recommend ESP size 8′s with a 12lb fluorocarbon hair rig (if you can make them!). if not, get some ready made rigs, their like 2quid each.

weights- i normally use 2-2 half oz in-line leads. Bolt rigs work well for me.. all ud need to do is push the lead into the swivel.

baits- bottom baits like boilies work really well, iv had alot of carp out on nash baits scopex, they might be worth a try.
id mix them up a bit, boilies on one rod and something else on the other eg, sweetcorn, flavoured meat (plain meat works too!).
hell.. u can even catch carp on bread.

spots- go for some sort of cover, like an island, over hanging tree’s, or margins. most carp anglers cast so far into the middle.. u actually dont need to do that as most carp hug the margins around the lilly pads/ reeds.

goodluck carp fishing, tight lines :P

  • I have recently started fishing as my son is a keen fisher man and having a bit of father and son bonding time is great, I was searching the internet for different techniques to try when I stumbled across this site, I just wanted to thank the commentators as the info is very handy. Thanks again.
