Carp fishing in a local pond?
I’m going to a fishing clinic on Saturday and last time we were there there was carp jumping out of the water a lot.The fishing expert there left a pole out to sit to see if he could catch a carp.Well after a while one took the bait but broke the line.I’d like to try catching one but I have 8lb line on my rod and have never tried for carp.Should I even bother trying or will they just break my line or rod?
Carp are strong, heavy fish but you should be able to pull them in with 8 pound line if you are careful. Set the drag light enough to give out line before it breaks. Also be sure that your line isn’t already weakened (usually from damage) near the hook and/or weight. If it is, just cut off the first couple feet or so and reattach the hook (or use a wire leader). Play the fish when its on the line. Hold the rod upright so the fish has to fight the rod (by bending it) as well as the drag from the reel. I always found that carp are the best fighters (which is fun) and also quite tasty. Did you know that in europe and australia, the carp is considered a prize? Where I am from (Iowa in the USA) they are considered a rough fish and not very good. I beg to differ and I often fish for them. Good luck.
What are some good ways to bait up a carp hole for fishing?
Go to a local bread outlet store (most have feed bread) keep them chumed with the bread as often as you can by crushing the bread into small ball sizedballs and keep them fed to create a feeding spot for them. I’ve found the carp will come on a regular basis to feed. I ususlly use canned corn chumed out in trhe same area chum some out and put some on a hook casted in the area and you’ll have al lot of fun.Have fun GOOD LUCK and KEEP FISHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How could i become a proffesional bass fisherman?
i am very serious about becoming a pro bass angler. How could i become one? Do you have to have giant boats to be a pro bass angler. I’m not rich at all and i’m from southeast kentucky. I’m only a teenager but, i know i have what it takes to be a pro. I know a whole lot about every lure imaginable. and mainly fish spinnerbaits.
what kind of training would i need?
If i have to have hi tech gear that i can;t afford,
Can you become a professional angler in something else like catfish or carp in the united states?
It takes ALOT to be a professional. What I would do is save up money for some bass tournaments. if your good enough and win a couple, you could possibly get sponsored. All you got to do is show your magic in a couple tournaments, and get to know the right people.
I hope I helped.

whats the best fishing bait for carp or catfish?
thanks
for carp use pillsbury (uncooked) dough-boy dough
for catfish use the worst case of stink you can have in the back of the truck with you. stink cheese, blood, liver, gizzards, mackerel combinations of any or many and I like KFC skin damned if it don’t work and the chicken I eat. I like it for a couple of reasons the two most important are it catches fish and two it don’t stink up the place.
What’s an ideal beginner’s set up for going after smaller coarse fish (roach, rudd and dace)?
I’m new to fishing, and have taken a couple of trips to a local lake (UK) to go after the smaller carp and tench. I have the bare minimum of kit but want to get more.
I wouldn’t mind going after the smaller coarse fish, as I’ve been told the whole process of rigging up, catching and landing them is more beginner- friendly than the bigger carp, barbel or pike etc. Apparently they’re also good sport when you use light gear?
What should I look towards getting in terms of kit? I have a Shakespeare reel with a spare spool, so I was thinking maybe 4 lb mainline (a friend has a bulk spool) to a 2 lb hook length and around a size 14 hook? I take it maggots would be the right bait, and what about the right rod? I presume a very light spinning-style rod might suit?
Any help welcome- as I say I am a complete novice, so please feel right to advise and put me right if need be!
Note: Sorry, I realise now that I didn’t mean a spinning rod- my mistake.
not a spinning rod thats for obviously spinning for pike /perch
i would use 12-13ft match rod the line you mentioned but maybe an 18 hook for maggots
Using this rod combo for paylake carp fishing?
i do paylake carp fishing in tournoments and my brother who is 13 wants to do it too. he is good for his age and is tired of using 808s. so i thought i would get him a baitcasting reel and i am not buying him anything expensive.he wants abu garcia ambassadors but im not going to hget him any i thought i would get him 2 of these to carp fish with what do you think
http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=10298925
there 6′ shakespeare rods with a baitcasting reel
808 is worth the money but usually for amatures, i personally like abu garcia ambassadors(6500) on either eagle claw or lightning rods.
It’s a good deal and should handle some big carp. My favorite would be a 6′ medium-heavy action rod but medium-action would be my 2nd favorite. I am about the same age as he is, and i don’t see how i could handle some huge rod but they are good to use too. I like 6′ or 6’6 but for all purpose carp angling 6′ is the best. It’s good and portable for a car.
Yea 2 would be good because, i fish with multiple rods when carp fishing sometimes up to 3 rods at a time.
I’ve never tried 808′s, are those good reels? Zebco is a nice, cheap company.
EDIT : Yea, spincasts are normally for amateur anglers, but i like using them for creek fishing for carp.
